Welcome To Movie Prop Heaven at Zap Props!

Chicago’s a beautiful town for a lot of things: food, architecture, sports, filming the best movies of all time…

Wait, what was that last one?

It’s true, Chicago has been the setting for an insane amount of great films: “A League of Their Own,” “The Dark Knight,” “Road To Perdition,” “Home Alone,” “Transformers” and so, so many more. And when all of those films (or TV shows or plays or anything else along the lines of those) needed props, there’s one spot they went to:

Zap Props is a a 36,000-square-foot warehouse filled with so many items, even the owners aren’t sure how many items there are.

They mean it though. If you need a throne, or a flying bicycle, a tiny statue, a giant toothbrush, neon signs, a typewriter, an old diner booth, the front half of a Chevy convertible or a chair that looks like a hand, you bet they have it here. They probably have nine different varieties (and they also have fantastic prop makers, so if they don’t have it, they can make it.)

Also, clowns. So. Many. Clowns.

They also decorate and outfit a ton of restaurants around Chicago, including Portillo’s. With those locations, they make sure that each one has it’s own flair so they don’t all look cookie-cutter – something¬† you can do when you have 36,000 square feet of miscellaneous items!

Also, they have prop dogs and a real prop dog, who is a real dog who has run of the prop house:

Now, Zap is only walkable by appointment only, so you can’t just wander in. They do, however, participate in Open House Chicago every year, which is happening in October, so throw it on your calendar now. You’re not going to want to miss a single thing here:

Zap Props is located at 3611 S Loomis Pl, Chicago, IL 60609. You can see a list of some of the items they have here.
