A veggie burger that tastes like a burger? Impossible I say! IMPOSSIBLE!

Nope, not anymore.

I went to Umami Burger to try the brand new Impossible Burger, which is just what I said above, a burger that tastes like a burger but is actually made with no meat.

Here’s what the company, Impossible Foods, says about their Impossible Burger:

Remember the best burger you’ve ever eaten? Our dedicated team of top scientists, farmers and chefs spent the last five years studying it from cow to bun. Then we identified methods and ingredients to naturally recreate everything — the sights, sounds, aromas, textures and flavors. The result? This impossibly delicious game changer of a burger.

Our burger is made from simple, all-natural ingredients such as wheat, coconut oil, and potatoes. What makes the Impossible Burger unlike all others is an ingredient called heme. Heme is a basic building block of life on Earth, including plants, but it’s uniquely abundant in meat. We discovered that heme is what makes meat smell, sizzle, bleed, and taste gloriously meaty. Consider it the “magic ingredient” that makes our burger a carnivore’s dream.

Because we use 0% cows, the Impossible Burger uses a fraction of the Earth’s natural resources. Compared to cows, the Impossible Burger uses 95% less land, 74% less water, and creates 87% less greenhouse gas emissions.

Here’s my thoughts on it. The first bite I took, it didn’t quite seem like a burger. BUT, I think that’s because I was in my own head. The more I ate and talked with my friend, I completely forgot it wasn’t a burger and it tasted like a burger. That was pretty awesome.

As a normal burger, it was decent. Not the best or worst I’ve ever had. Great bun, lots of cheese, nice size, tasty. Good. However, as a veggie burger, it was the best burger I’ve ever had. No question. Amazing.

The rest of Umami’s space is fun too, very lively, street art on the walls and an epic menu. We tried a bunch of the sides. Some, like the thin truffle fries, were incredible. Others, like the tots, which weren’t really tots but more like croquettes and way too salty, left a little to be desired sadly.

It’s a great spot for some great burgers, especially if you’re wanting to try something impossible!
