Mighty Fine Tomatoes with MightyVine

Guys, right now, my entire kitchen smells like fresh tomatoes. I cannot stress this enough: It. Is. Amazing!

(It’s a like a beautiful garden in there. I just keep walking through and getting a hit of fresh produce and it makes dizzy with joy.)

This all came about after I was contacted last week by MightyVine to try their tomatoes and give a review if I so felt like it. And I do because, without exaggeration, these are the best damn tomatoes I’ve ever eaten.

Here’s my issue, when I normally buy produce, I go to a local grocery store, go to the veggie isle, look at rows and rows of tomatoes and try the one I think would go best in a salad or a dish.

At this point, I have zero idea what I’m doing. I don’t know, it’s firm but not too firm., there doesn’t seem like there’s any spots on it or anything like that.  That’s… good? Hopefully it’s good.

Truthfully, sometimes it is, and sometimes – god, sometimes – it’s awful. It’s like playing the worst casino game in the world: How much money did you waste on tomatoes today?

But it doesn’t have to be that way. I’ve now seen the light, and it is cherry red and damn juicy.

Here’s what MightyVine says about their tomatoes:

Grown under pristine conditions with maximum sustainability, our tomatoes are picked fresh and to the market in hours, not weeks. Because of this speed, we are able to grow varieties with the most delicious flavor, not ship-ability.

Our 15 acre glasshouse is located just outside of Chicagoland in Rochelle, IL. The structure uses diffused glass and radiated heat, keeping our tomatoes at a perfect temperature to create great tasting tomatoes year-round.

They want you to: “Root For Your Local Tomato” and it’s impossible to not to.

We went down to Local Foods to pick up these babies. You can’t ignore them while you’re there, the tomatoes are all throughout the beautiful store. Just by the colors alone, they are impossible to miss.

When we mentioned why we we’re there, they brought out a giant sampler of tomatoes and I have to tell you…

Look at them! Gigantic, perfectly red, perfectly ripe, solid, no markings, literally could not be more beautiful. When I just asked her, my wife Shamaine said, “They were as red on the inside as they were outside, sweet, fragrant, juice and the flavor was sublime.”

They even look nice on my kitchen counter (although the lighting wasn’t nearly as nice.)

Well, here’s where they really shine. Because it’s fine for a tomato to look nice, but dammit, it’s got to win in a salad.

And win these did.

We used these in a mozzarella, basil and tomato salad and also made tomato and beef stir-fry and both we’re incredible, made so by these tomatoes. They really elovated everything we cooked that night and will continue to as we use them up in the next week or so.

Shamaine summed it up best: “They taste like summer.”

I can’t put it any better than that.

Oh, and just because they’re awesome, we also got some extra goodies at Local Foods.

If you’ve been unhappy with your tomato game, just know, it doesn’t have to be this way. Life doesn’t have to be this way. You can do better. Do better.
