A Chicago Adventure with JORD!

As many of you know, in the last few months I moved to Chicago, and have been slowly exploring my new home. Today, I take on the neighborhood of Near North Side. It’s kind of a strange name for an area (can’t you either be North Side or, you know, it’s own thing?) but it’s a beautiful location and very walkable, which I love.

At the same time, I was contacted by JORD Watches, who make some pretty incredible wooden timepieces for men and women. They asked if I’d like to be sent one of their watches (a lovely koa and black open-faced Dover series, oooooh) and then blog about an adventure I take with it. And of course the answer is, “Thumbs up, let’s do this.”

I figured what better way to do it than make like my pioneer forefathers on their own adventures, scoping out the new area and walking until they run out of land and hit the water! … Granted, water was only about 20 minutes away from me, but dang it, I hadn’t done it yet. So I packed up the family (my lovely wife and very eagerly dog) and adventure ho!

It was a beautiful warm Chicago day as we set out. The pace was slow, the living was easy.

file4-8 We saw downtown castles, medieval fire stations and beautiful and strange memorials.

(In case you’re wondering, the castle is actually the second-oldest water tower in the country one of the only public building to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.)

We passed by the brand new Murakami exhibit at the MCA, which just opened, and of course then needed to stop and take some adorable pics.

And walked by the beautiful Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and it’s epic arches.

And of course, waited by a giant hot dog with my hot dog for a hot dog.

Finally, after taking an Alice in Wonderland journey through the underground rabbit hole…

We made it to the water!

Yes, Lake Michigan, one of the famous Great Lakes! Fantastic, right?
I love Chicago. I love that people say hi to you on the street, that they’re totally fine with taking pics of you (as long as you then do the same for them), we even had two kids pet the dog and tell us we were a “very beautiful couple.” Even if they mostly meant her, dammit, I’ll take it.
Beautiful day, beautiful city, beautiful time for a walk.

Well, I happen to be giving away an $100 voucher from Jord to grab your own. They’re seriously a beautiful piece of jewelry and I’ve received so many compliments, questions and comments about mine since wearing it. And so, enter here and good luck!
